Meet Roland Gutierrez

Roland Gutierrez is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt instructor, law enforcement professional, and the Founder of Journeyman Grappling. His approach to training is shaped by decades of real-world application across law enforcement, government protective services, and private / corporate security environments. At Warrior Strength Martial Arts, Roland brings a calm, disciplined, and pressure-tested methodology to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction.

Roland holds a second-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Rick Lucero of the original Dirty Dozen lineage. His training philosophy is shaped by decades of operational experience as a law enforcement officer, Government Protective Services (PSD) contractor, and private / corporate protection specialist. This background informs how he teaches jiu-jitsu: functional, disciplined, and directly applicable to real-life scenarios.

Throughout his career, Roland has been entrusted with training and instructing others in high-responsibility environments. His instructional experience includes defensive tactics, firearms training, emergency response, SWAT-level tactics, and medical response training for law enforcement agencies, Department of State personnel, and corporate security teams. He has worked with both professionals and civilians, translating complex defensive concepts into practical, repeatable systems.

As an instructor, Roland is known for his calm presence, attention to detail, and ability to meet students where they are—whether they are beginners stepping onto the mat for the first time or experienced practitioners refining their skill set. His proudest work is not measured in titles or assignments, but in helping students develop mental resilience, emotional control, and physical confidence through consistent Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training.

At Warrior Strength, Roland’s instruction reflects the academy’s core standards: training that is honest, pressure-tested, and built to last. His classes prioritize awareness, accountability, and steady progression—preparing students not just to perform techniques, but to understand when, why, and how to apply them under stress.
